Alarmingly, 52,000 succumb to Breast Cancer in India every year and about one lakh new Breast Cancer cases are diagnosed in the country every year. The chief culprit is total lack of awareness and screening and a sense of denial amongst women. A WHO report says that 65 percent people in India are diagnosed only when they are in stage III or IV- an advanced stage of the disease.
Thousands of lives can be saved by actively taking part in one’s self care. Keeping track of health parameters, doing regular self breast checks and simple routine mammogram can go a long way in saving healthcare costs and the agony of treatment once the ailment is detected.
Keeping this scenario in mind on 7th March 2014; on the eve of Woman’s Day, indianhealthcentre.com organized a Breast Cancer Awareness talk for the women employees of Aviva Life Insurance at their Head Office in Gurgaon near New Delhi. Present on the occasion to throw light on Breast Cancer were Dr (Col) CS Pant, VSM, Consultant Radiologist and a authority in early Breast Cancer detection & prevention and Dr Bhawana Awasthy, Clinical Oncologist.
